Description
1890s/early 1900s shipping and store counter-top display bin -- tin covered in paper -- item from J. Mills Ely, Wholesale Grocers of Binghamton, New York -- amazing multi-colored printed Japanese Artwork on each side along with late 1800s style advertising/informational graphics on the other panels -- 'roll-out' front converts a an oblong shipping container into a store bin highly suited to scooping out individual portions -- original shipping weight of 70 pounds, this measures 18 by 18 by 21 1/2 in. -- from the remains of an old antique store in the area: likely from an Oregon store -- the paper covering is much more delicate than printing directly on tin, this item is likely very rare in any condition --
--
wear from time and poor storage -- considerable wear to the lid top though the underside and inside of this item are in quite nice condition - some cracking and considerable staining/soiling to the paper outer covering with a few chipped places missing - amazingly the paper covering is mostly intact, which for an exceedingly delicate item is almost a miracle
