Description
This is the venerable EICO 625 emission tube tester. It was recapped, repaired, calibrated, and fully tested. I found that it works like new. All tube sockets except the odd hy-tron socket
were tested with actual
tubes. I didn't test the hytron socket because I have yet to find a hy-tron base
tube. I don't think they ever made it to production because 7-pin miniatures quickly became a thing.
From the looks of it, how the sockets feel
and how little corrosion there is on the socket contacts, it wasn't used much, and
was well-cared for. It also looks like it was stored in a low humidity environment.
All filament voltage settings were tested and confirmed. I tested a variety of tubes to verify that "SELECTOR" positions 1, 2, 3 & 4 give the
correct readings. They do.
These are great little testers, and it's not too difficult to
keep them working properly.
To protect your tester, this EICO 625 tester
has the proper and hard-to-find #42 "CIRCUIT OVERLOAD" light bulb installed.
The "TUBE SHORT" neon was replaced and works well. Switches and knobs are good,
meter works very smoothly. The sockets are nice and tight and don't seem to have
gotten much use.
The EICO 625 will test tubes from antique through 9-pin miniatures including the
following bases:
Large bases with 4, 5, 6 & 7 pins
Octal (8 pins) (6L6, EL34, etc.)Loctal (8 pins)
7-pin miniature
9-pin miniature (12AX7, 6BQ5, etc.)
Hy-tron
Aside from working accurately, this tester also looks pretty good, especially
considering its age. This is the series of 625 testers with the silver faceplate and without the optional
cabinet lid.
The roll chart is in good shape and works well
. To complement the roll chart a complete
and updated comb-bound manual is included. The manual has the following items:
Instruction manual
Construction book
Tube inter-changeability chart
Supplements 625-03, 625-05, 625-06 & 625-08
Calibration instructions
Schematic
1978 Coletronics tube chart for the 625
I strongly recommend using the manual test data instead of the roll chart because
Coletronics test setups do a much better job of weeding out weak tubes.
Pictures show tubes under test. Good, weak, and leaky tubes are shown. The tester correctly identified each. The leaky tube is identified by the glowing neon indicator.
Returns accepted. Buyer pays return shipping. Item must be returned in same condition with all accessories and manuals.
Tubes shown under test are for demo only and are not included in this sale.
