    Description
Hickok 800 Mutual Conductance Tube Tester
    Calibrated and specs near perfect
The Original Hickok case which is solid and the Hickok leatherette is tattered a bit, but still in good enough shape for use (pics 19 - 23).
A New Custom Case can be made upon request for an additional cost.
Comes with an after market manual that includes additional tube data for obsolete, foreign, and more.
    DVD includes 3 manuals
that have calibration data and other info that was added by third parties, foreign, obsolete, Western Electric, and domestic tube data, and Daniel Shoos Calibration Testing of the Hickok Model 800/800A Tube Testers, Version 1.0, September 2006.
The tube chart is dated 1960 and rolls freely from end to end.
Calibrated and Near Perfect Specs in the original case. The
    RCA 83 and 5Y3GT
rectifiers tubes tested as good as NOS and appear to be original to the tester.
    New grounded AC power cord
and a custom made plate cap wire in order to attach to any size tube.
    The Original Hickok
meter was cleaned, destaticized, calibrated, and a new 150uF capacitor was added to the meter.
24 PICS That Enlarge to an enormous size
(The test adapter and calibration tubes are not included.)
Voltage SPECS that can be seen in the pictures above. All tests were done with the correct shunt resistor to duplicate 1,000 Ohms/Volt per Calibration Specifications.
    Picture 3
shows the AC signal voltage 2.45 SPEC is 2.5 +- .2
    Picture 4
is the plate voltage of 152.1 SPEC is 150.0 +- 5
    Picture 5
is the screen voltage of 132.3 SPEC is 130 +- 5
    Picture 6
is the low screen voltage of 56.3 SPEC is 56 +- 3
    Picture 7
is bias voltage at 100 which is -39.4 SPEC is -39 +- 1
    Picture 8
    is bias at 22 which is -3.2 SPEC is -3.0 +- .2
    Picture 9
shows the filament voltage with the tube in the socket at 6.22 which there is no SPEC for in any Hickok manuals with a tube in the socket, but critical to get accurate test results. Many Hickok testers can be calibrated, but the heater voltage drops below 6 volts when a tube is in the socket causing inaccurate testing and may indicate a weak or failing transformer.
    Picture 10 and 11
shows a 6L6 with mutual conductance (Gm) results of 5750. This 6L6 on average tests for Gm at 5750/5800 and has tested as high as 6500, and as low as 5200 on several other calibrated Hickok Tube testers. This
6L6 calibration tube with tested with results of 5500 right on the mark on the 6K mark on the dial at just a little over 86. I enhanced all the marks on the dial right to the edge so it is easier to be more exact
    .
    Picture 12 and 13
shows the same 6L6 calibration tube being tested with results also at 5500 right on the 15K mark on the dial which is a little over 93.
    Picture 14 and 15
shows a 12AX7 calibration tube with Gm of 1400 to 1800 on several calibrated Hickok testers being tested with results of 1550 right on the 3K mark which is a little under 73 on the dial. The 9 pin socket is tight and tested the tube with no issues. The socket is very tight and to keep it that way I highly recommend socket savers if you are going to be testing s lot of noval or 9-pin tubes.
    Picture 16
shows a 6AQ5 with Gm of 4100 to 4900 on several calibrated Hickok testers being tested
being tested using the 6K mark on the dial with results of 4500. The 7 pin socket is tight and tested the tube with no issues.
The socket is very tight and to keep it that way I highly recommend socket savers if you are going to be testing s lot of 7-pin min tubes.
    Picture 17
shows a SS83 rectifier being tested with expected results and using the Rectifier button rather than the Gm. The
    SHUNT
    was
    cleaned
(did not need to be calibrated) in order to give it consistency. Most of the shunt potentiometers on any Hickok tester, unless cleaned, have become fouled up with the original thick lubricant that has hardened over the past 50 years making the shunt dial very inconsistent. Very important the shunt be as consistent as possible when testing rectifiers e.g., since a small movement of the shunt dial can make a big difference with the readings.
    Picture 18
shows the shorts being tested with a 1 meg resistor that registered as 1 meg on the meter in all 5 shorts positions.
The marks on the shunt dial for the all 3 settings (
    3K, 6K, and 15K
) are perfect where they were marked at the factory. As a matter of fact it does not appear this tester was used much at all. Very nice clean, good original meter, tight sockets, and original 83 and 5y3 rectifiers dated 1959 and the the tube chart is dated 1960.
Checked all the filament voltages and they are all working at proper levels.
This is a 800 series tester that uses the shunt to determine Gm values rather than a set switch such as the 533a, 752, 750, etc., thus not as consistently accurate due to the use of the movable shunt dial to determine Gm values and why if a new mark is made on the dial, it is better to put it directly on a number rather than between so it is easier to set the dial on the correct mark.
The plate cap wire seen in pics is included.
Please look at the pictures and ask any questions.
    Several Options Available for Shipping
    I include insurance for shipping
Please know what tubes this 800 can test since it cannot test the newer campactron tubes without another tube island or adapter. Please know what tubes this 800 can test before buying.
NOTE: If you buy a Hickok tube tester not calibrated and you send it to someone to be calibrated you will pay for shipping to and from (apoximately 0.00), as well as the calibration fee (approximately 250.00 not incuding parts). You also have to hope the tester you buy is in working condition and can be calibrated. I will offer one
    free
calibration as long as you pay for shipping and any parts the tester may need, for example a new 83 or 5y3GT rectifier, or any other part, and the tester has to be still be in working condition.
    I offer
    1 free calibration
    within
    3
years of purchase as long as you pay the shipping and for any parts that may be needed, e.g. a new 83 mercury rectifier. Please keep the calibration sticker on the tube tester, or remove and attach it to a separate piece of paper and keep it so I can refer to it upon calibration request.
I have described what this tester is and provided as many pictures possible and this 800 cannot be returned for any reason and is sold as is for parts or repair. This 800 is sold as is for Parts or Repair. I will insure the tester in shipping at my expense. Security Measures are in place that will show if this tester was tampered with in any way. If you are uncomfortable with anything stated DO NOT BUY THIS TESTER!
This 800 is sold as is for parts or repair and is listed as is for parts or repair. Why Parts or Repair? Some scammers get away with abusing eBay's buyer protection, the age of this device and the nature of vintage electronics, potential user error, and many other things that are out of my control. So do not send me a message asking why for parts or repair? This only means you did not read this and I will not respond.
I have many years of experience working with Hickok tube testers which include working in a certified Hickok warranty repair shop where I did all the repairs under warranty, and repairing Hickok testers that were no longer under warranty. I was replacing Hickok meters in the 80s and for a small fee as a favor for customers and that time building or repairing meters was much more difficult
    .
The pictures are part of the description so please enlarge them and take a look for better details.
The test adapter and calibration tubes are not included
    .
Will be packed in an 18x14x12 box weighing 20 pounds.

    Terms of Sale
    AGREEMENT
Must read and agree to terms below:
Please note and understand that there are no returns on this tester and is sold strictly for parts or repair.
All sales are final and this Hickok 800 tube tester and is sold for parts or repair only due the nature of vintage electronics that can easily be damaged by user error, and due to scammers that take advantage of the policy in this site. I am building a site that can only be used to contact me at this time, and will be completed soon: "Hickok Meters" since anyone who owns and uses a Hickok tube tester is eventually going to need a new meter. The delay is having to learn Word Press to complete the site.
If you have a legitimate problem upon receiving this tester such as the 83 rectifier was broke in shipping, which rarely happen, but can in high altitudes shipping internationally due to the vacuum and increased pressure, or something got broke in shipping, please notify me immediately. Immediately means within a few hours of receiving it not 36 hours later or 2 weeks.
The transistor function (if applicable) was not checked on this tester.
This tester is over 50 years old and should last another 50 if used and maintained properly, but if directions are not followed and someone tries to test a shorted tube e.g., any tube tester, or meter, can be destroyed in a second. I am not responsible for user error. You are expected to read the manual and understand what you are reading. You need to familiarize yourself with the tester and how it functions. Please take the time to do this since it could save you a lot of grief such as pressing the Gm button when testing a rectifier. It is an easy mistake to make and why you need to be careful when using this type of equipment. If you read the manual and use the manual while using the tester until you become experienced, you should have very few problems if any.
Also, the same tube tested on different and also calibrated testers will usually give different results on each tester. Please do not expect this tester to have the same exact results of a tube tested on another tester. If you expect that this tester will test the exact same Gm because it is also calibrated and all within specs, then are disappointed and want to return it because it tested a tube higher or lower than you expected, do not buy this tester. You are looking to buy something that does not exist and I do not have the time or money to waste on non-issues and unobtainable perfection.
I am not responsible for teaching you to use this tube tester or paying anything if you take it to someone for anything.
This is a 800 series tester that uses the shunt to determine Gm values rather than a set switch such as the 533a, 752, 750, etc., thus not as consistently accurate due to the use of the moveable shunt dial to determine Gm values.
Thus this is not a laboratory tube tester and if you expect laboatory tube tester results from this 800 tube tester; do no buy it. This tube tester, due to its age and the nature of vintage electoronics, is sold as is for parts or repair. If the tester is damaged in shipping do not try to use it but rather contact me and a claim will be filed with shipper and being refunded will be contingent upon whether or not the shipper honors the claim. I take pictures of packing the tester and it should not be damaged in shipping and packed extremely well with fragile labels.
